The Role of Colour Management in Proofing
Colour Management improves the exchange of colour information between digital devices. These can be scanners, digital cameras, monitors, proofers and the press itself. It solves the basic problem that no two devices produce the same visual colour from the same digital values.
If you apply process control tools and measurement devices you achieve precision.
If you apply press control you achieve long term consistency.
If you apply press linearisation you achieve repeatability.
This all adds up to predictability.
SOS is one of only five accredited Fogra calibration specialists and has been awarded the prestigious EFI FOGRA certification. As a result, we can provide calibration and certification of your proofing devices to ISO FOGRA standards. For further information, please download Fogra Steps.pdf and Fogra ICC Instructions.pdf
Inkjet Printers
Inkjet printers fulfill all the criteria for producing quality proofs and this is the main reason for the demise of the traditional Cromalin, ColorArt and Matchprint Proofing systems.
In order to achieve predictability, the inkjet printer must be profiled accordingly. Printer profiling is the process of creating a file that records the way a particular combination of inks and paper behave on a particular model of printer - this file is known as an ICC printer profile. On calibrating a proofer, two profiles are made, one for the proofer itself and one for the device that it is emulating. This can be set to a particular preference or more commonly, brought in line with an industry standard such as ISO 12674-2.
SOS will provide the tools necessary to keep both your proofing system and press in check. This will certify that your system remains within the specified tolerances and therefore, any problems are then easily rectified. |
